| Golf to 'Master' first 3-D TV sports event in history |
|
The Masters will be broadcast in 3-D -- although few Americans own the technology to take advantage. Only Comcast customers with 3-D capable sets will be able to experience the first 3-D sports event on TV in the United States; previous experiments used movie theaters. A dedicated 3-D channel will be in use during the tournament and will show about two hours of content per day in 3-D. The channel will offer different angles of the action than normal broadcasts. A feed will also be available on the Masters' Web site. ESPN is producing the 3-D coverage. Two hours of live afternoon coverage, mostly of the back nine, will be aired each day of the tournament starting with Wednesday's Par 3 Contest on April 7. Networks believe 3-D could be the next big thing and are starting to offer programming. As for 3-D home theater systems, Panasonic’s 3-D Home Theater System is already available in select Best Buy stores. |

An announcement made Monday revealed next month's tournament can be viewed on 3-D-capable television sets and computers.
